Carly Belsito mainWatching “Saturday Night Live” with her family, helped inspire Journalism senior Carly Belsito to study broadcasting.

This past summer, she got to see first hand what it is like working for a late night TV show as an intern for “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

“It was the most incredible experience of my life,” Belsito said. “It was life changing, and I have a better understanding of what I want to do and where I want to be.”

Belsito said the number one thing her internship taught her is how much work it takes to run a show.

“I got to see every detail of what each staff member must do, and if they don’t do one particular thing, the show doesn’t run,” Belsito said. “They need every single piece to make the show work and function.”

While Belsito had never visited New York until the day of her interview, she loved living in the city and made a lot of friends who work in television.

“I feel like I’ll be working with them again someday,” she said.

Belsito first heard of the opportunity online, through NBC’s website. She then searched on LinkedIn and contacted Michigan State alumni who work in television. Eventually, she reached out to an alumnus working at David Letterman.

“He was so nice and helpful and offered to jump on the phone with me and talk in more detail about it. And he forwarded my resume on to his friend at Late Night,” Belsito said.

You can learn more about the NBC entertainment internship program and network with top recruiters from these NBC shows: “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” “Saturday Night Live,” and the “Meredith Vieira Show” on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in ComArtSci Room 233.
